El uso de some y any
Ambas se utilizan para hablar de cantidades. Estas palabras se denominan quantifiers, o cuantificadores. Podemos traducirlas como:
• Some: “algo de”, “algun@s” o no se traduce.
• Any : “algo de” o “algun@s” y también como “ningún” o “ningun@” o “cualquier/a” dependiendo de la oración…
¿Cuándo se usan?
• Some: Generalmente en oraciones afirmativas, con nombres contables en plural y nombres no contables en singular.
There are some books –Hay algunos libros.
They have got some water – Ellos tienen (algo de) agua.
También se usa en oraciones interrogativas para hacer un ofrecimiento o para preguntar algo cuya respuesta se presupone que es afirmativa.
Do you want some tea? - ¿Quieres (algo de)té?
Can I have some coffee? - ¿Puedo tomar (algo de) café?
• Any : Generalmente en oraciones interrogativas y negativas, con nombres contables en plural y nombres no contables en singular.
Have you got any money? - ¿Tienes (algo de) dinero?
She hasn’t got any children – Ella no tiene hijos.
También se usa en oraciones afirmativas con un sentido totalmente distinto: cualquier o cualquiera.
You can read any book in English – Puedes leer cualquier libro en inglés.
