FORMACIÓN DEL
PLURAL EN INGLÉS
Para la
formación del plural añadiremos “s” al singular. Por ejemplo:
Chair/chairs car/cars computer/computers.
A
continuación detallamos las excepciones a la regla principal:
• Los
sustantivos acabados en “ch”, “o”, “s”, “sh”, “x”, añaden “-es” al singular. Por ejemplo:
glass/glasses box/boxes match/matches potato/potatoes dish/dishes
• Los
sustantivos acabados en consonante más “-y” cambian su terminación “-y” por
“-ies”. Por ejemplo:
Party/parties lady/ladies country/countries.
• Los
acabados en vocal más –“y” solo añaden “-s”. Por ejemplo:
boy/boys
day/days.
• Los
acabados en “-f” o “-fe” cambian a “-ves”. Por ejemplo:
shelf/shelves
wolf /wolves
thief/thieves.
Además,
existen plurales irregulares que no siguen las normas. Por ejemplo:
man/men
child/children Woman/women
foot/feet tooth/teeth mouse/mice.
Y
otros que no cambian en el plural, como 'fish', 'sheep' y los nombres
incontables como 'money', 'water', 'wine' etc.
